Tradeshow Display Ideas & Tips

Trade show displays are a critical component of any successful marketing plan. Luckily, you don’t have to spend a fortune to make your trade show display look like a million bucks. Here’s how to be best in show.

Tip #1: Determine your goal.

Before you invest in a trade show display, be sure you have a clear goal in mind, whether it’s to promote a new product or generate sales leads. This will influence the design of your display.

Tip #2: Know your options.

From pop-up displays to tabletop booths, there are a wide variety of trade show display options. No matter what you’re overall goal is, you need a display that maximizes available space and stands out from a sea of generic booths. Take the time to research your options so you make the right choice.

Tip #3: Cut costs, not quality.

At a trade show, your booth is your brand. Work with a graphic design team to ensure your booth design attracts attendees – and doesn’t send them running in the opposite direction.

Tip #4: Balance words and pictures.

Trade show attendees will be drawn to your booth by pictures, not text. Be sure your booth has the right balance of engaging graphics (to attract attendees) and information (to educate attendees on your company and generate new business).

Tip #5: Think portability.

Remember, you need to get the display to and from the trade show. The last thing you want is to spend more money shipping it than the display actually costs!

Tip #6: Bigger isn’t always better.

While a big trade show display definitely makes a bold statement, sometimes bigger isn’t better. Tabletop displays are ideal for smaller trade show and exhibit spaces. Lightweight and portable, your sales team will love traveling with a tabletop display, and one person can assemble it in just minutes.

Tip #7: Trade show displays aren’t just for trade shows.

You just paid big bucks for a gorgeous new trade show display. So when the trade show’s over, don’t leave it lying around to collect dust. Put it on display in your storefront, corporate meeting room or office lobby.

Tip #8: Make every display part count.

Whether you include a retractable banner stand or display lighting, each part of your trade show display needs to serve a purpose and support your overall goal (see Tip #1). Be remembered for your products, not your crazy disco lighting.

Tip #9: Remember the three-second rule.

That’s how long most trade shows have to engage potential attendees. So make the most of your three seconds with a creative and unique display.

Tip #10: Bring your own lighting.

Because trade shows are often dimly lit or filled with harsh overhead lighting, your booth may not shine as brightly as it should. Shine the spotlight on your display with a few strategically places lights. Just be careful not to go overboard (see Tip #8).
